Stuart Pearce was named as the Under-21s Coach on 1 February 2007. As a player he earned 78 caps for England between 1987 and 1999. He had a short spell as caretaker manager at Nottingham Forest in the 1996-97 season. Pearce joined the coaching staff at Manchester City in 2002 becoming caretaker manager in March 2005. He was formally appointed as manager in May 2005, but left the club at the end of the 2006-07 season.

Nigel Pearson, who is also First Team Coach at Newcastle United, joined the Under-21 setup on 1 February 2007. Nigel was a full-time member of the national coaching set-up at The FA from 2002 to 2004 after a period working as a part-time coach. During this period he was involved with every England youth team from the U16s to the U20s. Pearson has also managed Carlisle United and, prior to joining Newcastle, was assistant manager to Bryan Robson at West Bromwich Albion.

Steve became part of the Under-21s coaching team earlier this year following the appointment of Stuart Pearce. A former player with Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Birmingham, Portsmouth and Exeter, Wigley moved into coach, first at Aldershot, before returning to Nottingham as assistant academy director. He worked his way up the ranks to become first team coach before heading to Southampton as academy director in the summer of 2001, while helping out former U21 coach David Platt with the England set-up. Steve had a short spell as caretaker manager of Southampton in early 2004 before being handed the full-time reins the next season. His next move took him to Manchester City, where he worked under Stuart Pearce, and he left the club in May 2007. |

We won 4-0 Best memory with U21s: The two victories v Germany, October 2006 in the play off phase for this year's UEFA Championship finals. Bainsy's wonder strike in the home leg at Coventry and then Theo's two great finishes late in the game out in Germany. A great feeling beating Germany home and away to qualify. Highlight in football: My team Wolves beating Sheffield Utd 3-0 in the Championship play-offs at Cardiff back in 2003. I couldn't actually make the game as the U21s returned from a training camp in Sardinia on the day of the game. Thanks to lots of help unloading the plane and a hair raising journey back to Staffordshire with my kit van driver Tabby, (a Stoke fan) I made it back to the pub in time for kick off and a great afternoon. |
