Wolves welcome Rachel
By Alex Stone. Wednesday, 20 April 2005.
England goalkeeper Rachel Brown got a warm welcome from the Warrington public when she attended a rugby league match last week.
Native North West girl Brown was the guest of honour at Warrington Wolves'
match versus Bradford Bulls and paraded the Women's Euro 2005 trophy to fans on the pitch at half-time to give the fans a taste of the football action to come this summer.
Wolves' Halliwell Jones Stadium will host three Group B games during the UEFA European Women's Championship in June and will also stage the second Semi-Final. Should England win Group A they will face the runners-up of Group B at the stadium on Thursday 16 June.
Brown, who joined up with the England squad this week for their international against Scotland, did a lap of honour at half-time in Wolves' victory along with the Warrington Under-10s girls' football team. She is pictured with Wolves'
sports coach and England rugby league international Jane Banks.
This weekend Sue Smith will be the guest of Blackburn Rovers FC when they entertain Manchester City in a Premiership encounter. Winger Sue, who was a special guest earlier this month at Preston North End FC v Gillingham, will also be asked to take to the Ewood Park pitch at half-time to show the coveted trophy.
Tickets are now on sale to all 15 games of the UEFA European Women's Championship from the five host grounds. Book now to secure the best seats.
