The international match, in partnership with Nationwide, will be shown live on Sky Sports, and sees Hope Powell’s squad entering the final phase of their preparations for the 2005 UEFA European Women’s Championship, for which Scotland narrowly missed out on qualification.

He added: "The North West has a strong women’s football heritage and I would urge local fans from to turn out in force to support the England team in what promises to be another exciting encounter on Thursday."

A number of Liverpool-born players are in Hope Powell’s squad for the game including Sue Smith, who started her career at Tranmere Rovers and Everton’s Jody Handley and Kelly McDougall.

They will be joined by Wirral-born Becky Easton in hoping to start in front of their home fans, alongside fellow Everton stars Rachel Unitt, Rachel Brown, Lindsay Johnson, Samantha Britton and Fara Williams.
