Vicky Exley celebrating with her fellow Belles
Vicky's Cup victory
Tuesday, 22 March 2005.
England's Vicky Exley has already picked up one medal this season ahead of the Women's Euro 2005 Championship, when Doncaster Rovers Belles won the Sheffield & Hallamshire Women's County Cup Final at the weekend.
The Belles defeated Sheffield United Community Ladies 7-1, with a brace from Exley adding to goals from Katie Brash, Frankie Waller and a Michelle Walsh hat-trick.
The first half saw the Doncaster Belles dominating the game up until the 44th minute when on the breakaway Jodie Sneldon opened the scoring for Sheffield United.
Doncaster replied instantly with a goal almost immediately from kick off. Katie Brash made it 1-1 just seconds before half time, and Doncaster set off on a goal-scoring frenzy with six goals in the second half.
Sheffield United battled hard against their FA Nationwide Premier League opponents, but the Belles' superiority in skill and ability was apparent in the second half.
Vicky's exploits came only four days after she returned from the Algarve Cup where she scored twice against Northern Ireland in England's first game.
Her thoughts will now turn to keeping her run of form going to help Doncaster Rovers Belles stay in the Premier League, and then hoping to get into Hope Powell's squad of twenty players for the Women's Euro 2005 Championship between 5-19 June this Summer.
