Speaking to TheFA.com in his series looking at all of England's Euro 2004 squad he said:

"I saw him play for Tottenham, alongside Gardner, and these two will be good for Tottenham and for England.

"He played most of the games this season as a central midfield player. He's good on the ball, good vision and he's strong.

"They then played him as a central defender, which is his best position, and for us against Portugal he did very well and scored a goal.

"I read an nice article about him: 'This is my position' he said, 'and I'll do my very best to get into the squad.'"

He added: "He has an interesting future."
