England’s players are champing at the bit to beat Switzerland and make up for the opening defeat by France in Euro 2004.
Sol Campbell’s mood sums up the feeling in the squad when he says the players cannot wait to get going in Coimbra against the Swiss on Thursday.
"The atmosphere in the camp is tremendous. We’ve got a big task ahead of us but we’re ready," said Sol.
"Sometimes in games, there are situations beyond your control but hopefully we'll get the rub of the green next time.
"We're all disappointed, but we've got another bite of the cherry, so we've got to make this one count and I'm sure we will.
"Experience comes into it and there are people in the camp who have that and when you've got enough of those guys around, you do recover quickly.
"We can help the younger, more inexperienced members of the squad. You have to put it in perspective.
"We have to go in to this game just like we did the French match. If the game goes our way, we can win 1-0 or 2-0.
"There is no fear. We know we can go out of the tournament if we don’t win, and we have to be positive."
The players had a brief inquest after Sunday’s defeat in Lisbon, and are determined to move forward.
"We didn’t have a long team meeting – it was short and sharp, just what we needed.
"Now we’ve got another game, another 90 minutes to put it right. We need the win more than Switzerland so that should give us an extra edge as well."
The biggest dilemma facing Sven Goran Eriksson is whether to stick with Ledley King in the centre of the defence that played against France or bring in John Terry, who is now fully fit.
Sol knows it will be a tough call after his former Tottenham team-mate put in another outstanding performance against Thierry Henry and Co.
"I thought we defended really well against France, the back four and David James behind us. Ledley came in to a difficult situation but he stood tall and got through it. He was fantastic.
"John Terry has had a fantastic season. He’s very strong and his awareness is very good. Both John and Ledley are fantastic players and should have long international careers ahead of them.
