Speaking exclusively to TheFA.com for England TV, Vasconcelos said he believes that the balance could tip either way:

"I think Portugal can win, but so can England - they are two very good teams," he explained.

"The three central midfielders from Porto are crucial for Portugal- Costinha, Maniche and Deco are in good form and balance very well because they know each other well.

"Figo and Ronaldo are a threat too. Ronaldo is now understanding when to pass and when to go one on one. He is a player for the crowd and very loved."

"For England Beckham is the most well known, and his set-pieces are feared"

"Wayne Rooney is having a fantastic competition - everyone has to respect his qualities - and I've also been impressed with Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole."

"It's hard to predict but will certainly be a very intense game"

But surely being the hosts will be to Portugal's advantage? Not so says Vasconcelos.

"I doubt Portugal will have the benefit of the home crowd - the percentage to each federation is sold out so the tickets to the general public will be the deciding factor, and I am expecting more England fans than Portuguese."

"Also England have played more matches in the Stadium of Light than Portugal, as the stadium is very new and Portugal have only played there once."

"Sven also knows how Portugal play having coached in Benfica for two different periods - he is very loved here, probably the most loved Benfica coach of the last 20 years."

Although anything but certain of the outcome, Vasconcelos is certain of one thing - goals.

"I think it will be a very technical match to start with but after one goal I think we can expect more. I think we can expect two or three goals easily."
