Speaking exclusively to TheFA.com for England TV, the Liverpool striker says that the role of goal provider he has played so far is a good one, but he intends to get on the score sheet himself now the Three Lions are in the knockout stages.

"It's the business end of the competition now when goals are even more important," he says.

"I look forward to the big games and I've got a good record in the big games.

He explains "In the last World Cup I didn't score in the group games, but scored in the next two, so hopefully that's a good omen for Portugal. Hopefully I can start scoring.

"I've had a hand in a few goals so far, it's better scoring than making them but it's the next best thing.  The next step is to score myself.

"It's part of the game, some people score, some create.  My job is to score primarily and to create secondly.

"I've not managed to do the number one job yet, but If I'm not doing it, someone else has been, so it's good for us."

Owen adds: "I had one good chance in the last game.  I haven't had many chances, but it'll even itself out in the end.  I'm sure I'll get a couple of chances and when I do I'm confident I'll put them away."
