England Women’s Under-23s recorded a notable victory over the Russia senior team during a training camp in La Manga.
The Russians have been drawn in England’s group at this summer’s European Championship Finals so Head Coach Brent Hills can be pleased with his side’s result.
The Three Lions fell behind in the opening minute but recovered well and a goal apiece from Michelle Hinnigan and Isobel Christiansen secured a 2-1 win.
Hills said: “We put in a very competent performance against a really good senior side, especially in the second half.
“It was a good result, a good all-round performance and a great way to end an excellent week of training.”
Hope Powell’s senior side were also in La Manga on a week-long training camp as they start their preparations for Sweden 2013.
The next step is to compete in the annual Cyprus Cup tournament in March, where England will take on Italy, Scotland and New Zealand.
