Brent Hills' England beat Germany on penalties to finish third in the U21 Nordic Cup.

Germany, who for the past decade have been the dominant force in European women's football, had been favourites to beat Hills' side having been pipped to a place in the final by the USA.

However, after the match finished 1-1, England at last got their way over Germany in a sudden-death penalty shoot-out.

After both sides had scored their first penalties, Saskia Bartusiak and Shelly Thompson for Germany and Kelly McDougall and Rachel Axon missed.

The fourth and fifth penalties were all scored to leave it 3-3, meaning it went to sudden death.

Anna Laue missed for the Germans and it was left to Birmingham City's Jo Potter to seal victory and clinch a very impressive third place for The Three Lions.
