The FA has won its bid to host the Second Qualifying Round of the 2003 UEFA Under-19 European Championships.

England won their First Qualifying Group back in October, beating hosts Bulgaria, Lithuania and the Faroe Islands.

England will now host the Second Group Qualifier in April, at venues to be confirmed shortly. England will battle against Denmark, the Republic of Ireland and Spain for the right to compete in the eight-nation Finals, which will be hosted by current champions Germany in July.

England gave their best ever performance in the annual competition last year, progressing to the semi-finals where they lost 1-0 to eventual winners Germany. That result saw them qualify for the inaugural FIFA U19 World Championship. Held in Canada in August 2002, England went through to the quarter-finals before losing to the hosts in front of 24,000 fans.

In preparation for the qualifier, a dual England Under-17 and England Under-19 training camp will be held this month. The dual meet-up will give coaches the chance to assess some new players, while training the current crop in the tactics of playing international football.

The squads will meet up on Sunday 16th February in Reading and will have four days of coaching until Thursday 20th.National Women's Coach Hope Powell OBE will be present, along with Assistant National Coach Brent Hills. Other coaches working with the age groups will be Jane Ebbage, Mo Marley, Josie Clifford, Julie Chipchase and Lois Fidler.
