After their impressive 4-0 demolition of Belarus the England Women’s Under 19s are back in action tonight when they face Slovakia at Gigg Lane, home of Bury FC.
With three points already on the board, another win would secure them a place in the Elite Qualifying Round and then, of course, further progress would lead them to the Finals in Macedonia next summer, where they would be defending their crown.
Head Coach, Mo Marley, believes her side will become stronger as the competition progresses.
“It is a long term plan that we have,” she said. “Each training session is fundamental to how we progress in the future.
“We know we have a lot of work to do but we are going in the right direction and everyone is happy.”
The last time England faced Slovakia was last year at the same stage of qualification when the two sides saw out a 1-1 draw. Marley wants her side to improve on that result this time around.
“We know they are going to be difficult to break down,” she added. “We can learn from our previous experiences against them and it is fair to say we are better equipped now with the experience we have.
“We are sharper, we are fitter and have better game understanding so hopefully that will stand us in good stead leading into the game. One thing for sure is though every single game we play in is going to be difficult.”
England are likely to face a backlash from Slovakia as they were comprehensively beaten 5-1 by Norway in their opening qualifying game.
