England face Greece on Friday in their opening European Championship qualifier as Lois Fidler's side seek to better their fantastic run to the semi-finals last season.
The road to the second UEFA European Women's U17 Championship began on Sunday with the opening first qualifying round mini-tournament in FYR Macedonia.
Four places are at stake in May's finals, which again will be hosted by UEFA at the Colovray Stadium in its Swiss home town of Nyon. The 40 entrants are aiming to make it through to the second qualifying round in the spring of 2009.
Only the winners of the ten first qualifying round groups are assured of progress to the draw on 19 November, along with the six runners-up with the best record against the teams first and third in their sections.
Lois Fidler's England side who finished fourth last season commence their campaign in Estonia where they take on Greece, in a group also containing Norway and Estonia.
Holders Germany are in Group Six against hosts Bulgaria, Finland and Serbia and the round will be completed on 28 October with Group Three, involving Moldova, Hungary, Ukraine and Lithuania.
