The England Women’s team were on the charm offensive this week as they paid a visit to Manchester ahead of next month’s crucial Euro 2013 qualifier against Holland.

Kelly Smith, Fara Williams, Jill Scott, Alex ScottEllen White and Steph Houghton were paraded on the main stage of the Trafford Centre in front of hoards of fans and local girls’ teams.

The Trafford Centre is a stone’s throw from Salford City Stadium, the venue for England’s top-of-the-table Euro clash against the Dutch.

Holland lead Group 6 with Hope Powell’s side five points further back, but England have a game in hand. The two sides drew 0-0 in Zwolle last year and England know they must pick up three points on Fathers’ Day to give themselves the best possible chance of avoiding a two-legged play-off in October.

FATV travelled to Manchester with the players and spoke to them after the event.

“We had a really good turn out and the girls have really enjoyed it,” said Houghton. “It was an opportunity for fans to come down and get our autographs and pictures. Hopefully we can get as many people as we can to Salford on 17 June.”

Alex Scott concurred: “We are hoping that we can drum up some support, get these fans down [to the Salford City Stadium to] be our 12th player. It’s a massive game and we need all the fans that we can get.”

The FA and the Manchester FA have lined up an England Football Party on the day of the Holland game and a number of family friendly activities have been planned from 3pm outside the ground.

The party is in the middle of Euro 2012 and England fans are urged to come along with wigs, face paint and fancy dress and be prepared to make some noise ahead of and during the game.

Entry is free for U12s and all children will receive an England party bag packed with goodies.

Tickets for the crucial clash against Holland are on sale now, priced just £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions. U12s will be free when accompanied by an adult and wheelchair users will pay £2.50, carer will go free
