England’s crucial UEFA Euro Women's 2013 qualifier against Holland will be broadcast exclusively live on BBC2.
Hope Powell’s side will entertain the Dutch at Salford City Stadium on Sunday 17 June needing a win to keep alive their hopes of topping Group 6. Holland lead the group with England in second place, five points further back, but the Three Lions do have a game in hand. The two sides drew 0-0 in Zwolle last October.
By broadcasting this match, the BBC will extend its long-running association with the England Women’s team, having screened a number of high-profile fixtures over the years, including the 2007 and 2011 World Cup campaigns and the Euro 2009 Final defeat to Germany.
“It’s great to have the BBC behind us again,” said Powell. “They have been fantastic for us over the years and every time one of our games is on the BBC it really raises the profile of the England team and women’s football on the whole and I’m sure we will witness that spike once again.
“This is a really big game for us and I am delighted it will be on terrestrial TV. Now we just need to make sure we get the right result.”
Barbara Slater, BBC Director of Sport added, “We’re committed to broadcasting women’s sport across all BBC platforms and in what promises to be a fantastic summer of sport we’re delighted to be continuing our association with England Women’s football.”
Next summer’s Euro Finals will be staged in Sweden.
