It says much about Karen Bardsley’s increasing importance to England that only Casey Stoney, Rachel Unitt and Ellen White appeared more times for their country in 2011 than the New Jersey Sky Blue goalkeeper.

The 27-year-old has become a key member of Hope Powell’s squad since she her international bow in 2005 and her 12 appearances in this calendar year is a career best.

Bardsley started every game of this summer’s World Cup, making some crucial saves against New Zealand and France and comfortably saved Camille Abily's spot-kick in the quarter final shoot-out defeat to the French.

Bardsley started three of the four games in the Cyprus Cup in March and two World Cup warm-up matches, against USA and Sweden. She has also worn the No.1 jersey in the last three UEFA Euro 2013 qualifiers, against Slovenia, Holland and Serbia.
