After earning seven caps for the England U19 team, playing in the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup in 2008 and twice turning out for Brent Hills’ U23 side, Claire Rafferty made her senior team debut against Austria in March 2010.
In 2011, the attacking left-back appeared as a substitute against Sweden in May and she had impressed enough with Chelsea for Hope Powell to select her in the 21-player World Cup squad that flew to Germany in the summer.
Rafferty would provide quality back up for regular left-back Rachel Unitt and the 22-year-old would make her senior World Cup bow in the quarter-final defeat to France.
A cruciate ligament injury has kept her out of action for a considerable length of time, but Rafferty is well on the road to recovery and it shouldn’t be too long before we see her in an England shirt once more.
