In 2011, Faye White captained England at a major tournament for the fourth consecutive time.
Her run began way back in 2005 when she skippered her country at the European Championship Finals, which were held on home soil. In 2007 White wore the armband in China as England reached the quarter-final of the World Cup, and two years later she led the Three Lions to the Final of Euro 2009.
This summer England were back on World Cup duty and White recovered from injury just in time to lead Hope Powell’s side in the opening match of Germany 2011,
a 1-1 draw with Mexico. White also started
against New Zealand but was rested for the final Group B match, against
Japan. Her final appearance of the year came in
the quarter-final shoot-out defeat to France before injury struck again.
White also managed three matches earlier in the year, two in the Cyprus Cup, against
Italy and
Canada, and
a 2-1 friendly win over the No.1 ranked side in the world, USA.
She has yet to feature in England’s
Euro 2013 qualifying campaign, but will be hoping to return from injury early in 2012.
