Rachel Williams enjoyed a fruitful 2011 for both club and country.
The Birmingham City forward was
The FA WSL’s top goalscorer with 14 goals in 14 games, as the Blues finished second and only lost out on the League title on the final day.
Her prowess in front of goal earned her various call-ups to Hope Powell’s England team and she finally added to her only other previous cap - against Iceland in 2009 - by replacing Natasha Dowie at half-time of
the 2-2 Euro 2013 qualifying draw away to Serbia. A third cap and a first England goal followed soon after.
In September, with England 3-0 up against Slovenia, Williams replaced Rachel Yankey with 81 minutes on the clock and it took the 23-year-old just seven minutes to make an impact, as she turned home Jess Clarke’s pull back to seal
a comfortable victory at Swindon’s County Ground.
Her fourth cap came in the final match of the year,
the 2-0 defeat of Serbia at Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium.
