Prime Minister wishes England well ahead of Women's World Cup.

The England Women’s team were David Cameron’s special guests at Downing Street on Tuesday as the Prime Minister wished the squad luck ahead of their FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign in Germany later this month.

The Prime Minister greeted the team in the garden of No.10 and spent time chatting to each player, National Coach Hope Powell, and FA Chairman David Bernstein. Mr Cameron told the the team that he had enjoyed watching last month’s FA Women's Cup Final between Arsenal and Bristol Academy on television and said he'd make sure he's tuned in to England's opening World Cup game against Mexico on 27 June.

The visit to No.10 was preceded by an appareance at a Street League coaching event in Lancaster House. Street League is an official charity partner of both The FA and Downing Street and it exists to utilise the power of football to help young people who are out of work gain the necessary training to help get them back into employment. Powell and her players mingled with the participants and gave a few hints and tips as they watched the sessions from the sidelines.

Powell will name her 21-player World Cup squad on Friday 10 June.

What Do You Think?

  • My understanding is he snubbed one player who was mortified. So much for chatting to each player.By Ken (23 months ago)
  • Will be jetting of to Germany in July to watch Brazil v Norway in Wolfsburg then don't to Augssburg to see England play Japan in the final group game. Could be a decider to get through to the knockout stages! Good Luck Girls! Here's hoping I don't catch E.Coli though.By hels (23 months ago)
  • I personally and sincerely also wish the female England team the best of success at the forthcoming World Cup. May they win it and bring back with them a fantastic trophy! Hats off also to Hope Powell who has been doing a splendid job! I just wish that Cameron will do the same gesture in the future whenever the male England senior team have an important official game coming up! Mark Said from Malta.By fabfan (23 months ago)
