Hope Powell has named her England squad for the opening two UEFA Women's Euro 2013 qualifiers, against Serbia and Slovenia, and the latter game will be broadcast live and free of charge on FATV.

Eighteen of the 22-strong group flew to Germany for the World Cup in the summer where England lost on penalties to France in the quarter final, while the National Coach has also found room for Everton duo Fern Whelan and Natasha Dowie, Chelsea’s Dani Buet and Birmingham City’s Rachel Williams, as the quartet have impressed of late in The FA WSL.

Left-back Claire Rafferty unfortunately misses out after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury while playing for Chelsea and a reoccurring Achilles injury means Kelly Smith will stay in America to rest. Anita Asante will also sit out this double-header due to a thigh injury.

England will take on Serbia in Belgrade on Saturday 17 September before returning home to host Slovenia at Swindon Town's County Ground five days later, and Powell believes she has picked the right squad to get their Euro qualifying campaign off to a positive start.

“Every coach would always like more depth, be it at club or international level, but I’m really pleased that we’ve got a good blend in the squad and have had for a while now," she said. “There are a few players in this squad who weren't at the World Cup and they’ve all done well recently and all deserve their call-up. These next two matches will give us an opportunity to have another look at them in an England environment.

“It’s a new campaign but we have to build on our previous experiences, both at the World Cup and in the victories over USA and Sweden. No coach would ever neglect what has gone before. You have to build on what went well and improve on what didn’t go so well.

"We’ve got some information on both Serbia and Slovenia that we can work with and I think our previous experiences will help us in that double-header. Hopefully we can start off on the right foot."

Should Fara Williams feature in both matches it will leave her just three caps short of the 100-mark.

Tickets for the England v Slovenia game are priced £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions (U7s go free) and can be purchased by calling the ticket hotline on 0871 876 1993.
