Charlton striker Ann-Marie Heatherson has been named in the England squad for game against Denmark.
Charlton Athletic’s 19-year-old striker Ann-Marie Heatherson has been called into Hope Powell’s England squad for the international against Denmark at Portsmouth FC next month.
It is the first time the in-form striker has been called into the squad and she makes up a five-strong contingent from Charlton, the current National Division leaders.
Heatherson is the newest addition to an already young squad, with just nine players remaining from England’s 2001 European Championship Finals campaign. With an average age of 23, Powell is planning for the future with the team just 17 months away from the start of the 2005 UEFA European Championship Finals which England, as hosts, qualify for automatically.
There is a recall to the squad for Leanne Hall, the Fulham goalkeeper, who has not been selected for England in over a year after sustaining a broken leg and then losing her place in the squad. She is one of two ‘keepers in the squad alongside England No.1 Pauline Cope, following contender Rachel Brown’s ACL injury suffered earlier this month while in action for Everton.
The England international, in partnership with Nationwide, will be played on Thursday 19th February at Fratton Park, it will kick-off at 7.35pm and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
Defender Corinne Yorston, from Fleet in Hampshire, will be hoping to add to her debut cap earned earlier this season in the 2-2 away friendly against Russia in Moscow. Yorston started her career at Southampton Saints before signing on for reigning league champions Fulham on a semi-professional contract in the summer.
England return to Portsmouth two years after their last victorious visit where they beat Portugal 3-0 in front of a crowd of 8,821, which was a record at that time.
