Hope Powell names a party of 24 to for England's clash with Nigeria's Super Eagles at Carrow Road later this month...
Former England captain Tara Proctor has received a recall to the senior squad for the Nationwide international friendly on July 23rd. The Charlton Athletic midfielder had started the 2001-02 season as the national team captain, but a knee injury sustained in February forced her out of action for the rest of the season.
The squad also includes Fulham forward Kristy Moore for the first time, subject to confirmation of her eligibility. Moore, who has an English mother, represented her native Australia in training matches in 1997 but it is as yet undetermined whether these were officially recognised by FIFA; should the matches not have been deemed official, then Moore would be able to play for England.
One player missing from the squad is Angie Banks, the Arsenal striker, who has decided to take a break from international football. Banks has accumulated 18 caps and scored four goals in her international career spanning three years. She cites her fear of flying and the desire to focus on her club career as the reasons for her decision. The news will give the National Coach Hope Powell a headache when it comes to forwards, because star striker Kelly Smith will be unavailable for the next six months due to a cruciate knee ligament injury sustained last month.
The England team will meet up on Thursday 18th July in Norwich, ahead of the game being played at Carrow Road, Norwich City FC, on Tuesday July 23rd with an 8.05pm kick-off. Tickets for the match, at £3 for adults, £1 concessions and £5 for a family ticket, are available from the ticket hotline on 0870 444 1902
