It has been another good year for the England captain, who successfully led the Three Lions to the World Cup Finals in South Africa next summer.

Always one of the first to put his body on the line for the England cause, Terry only missed one international game in the entire calendar year when injury ruled him out of the friendly game with Brazil in Doha. In any case, that was the final match of the year and the hard work of qualification had already been done.

Aside from that, he was in imperious form whoever he was paired with in defence. In the early part of the year, it was Rio Ferdinand before Matthew Upson had more of an involvement as 2009 came to a close. Capello certainly knows that in Terry, he has a rock on which to build the foundations of his team.

There’s plenty to look forward to in 2010 for the Chelsea stalwart too, with the World Cup forthcoming and if the captain can go into the year with the 2009 POTY award under his arm, that would be a further boost.
