The 1986 World Cup faces some set-backs.
For a while it seemed like the '
86 World Cup was in serious jeopardy.
The original host nation, Columbia, had pulled out in 1982 after being unable to afford the organisational demands made by FIFA. The tournament was then awarded to Mexico – becoming the first nation to hold the tournament twice – but there was further disruption when a severe earthquake hit the country eight months before the event.
However, with the stadia unaffected, the tournament went ahead and in true World Cup fashion produced some historic moments in football.
