England Player of the Weekend

Aaron Lennon has been named as TheFA.com's England Player of the Weekend after scoring the winning goal in Spurs' victory over Chelsea at White Hart Lane this weekend.

Following his mention last weekend for an impressive performance and numerous attempts at breaking the deadlock at Vicarage Road, Aaron Lennon has been rewarded this week following another fine performance, this time against reigning Champions Chelsea.

Despite an early lead being taken by Chelsea with a goal from Makelele at just 14 minutes Spurs went on to claim their first league victory with Lennon netting the goal that clinched the win for his side. With 52 minutes on the clock a cross from Keane found Lennon at the far post where he proceeded to turn inside Ashley Cole before firing a shot past Hilario from just 10 yards.

In what has proven to be an eventful weekend there are several other candidates who more than deserve a mention.

Darren Bent who lead the line at Charlton strongly and energetically found the net with an impressive header from a looping cross by Jerome Thomas in what was only their second win of the season.

Gary Neville proved to be he fulcrum to a number of United attacks and on another day could well have scored three goals. However, this weekend saw his efforts denied three times by the defiant keeping of David James.

West Ham's second victory of the week against the Gunners was aided greatly by the England Under 21s Captain Nigel Reo-Coker. Reo-Coker proved critical in breaking down not only the attacks made by Arsenal but also the resolve of the team as he worked tirelessly throughout the match.

Watford's Ashley Young proved to be a constant thorn in the side of the Middlesbrough defence and was eventually rewarded as he scored his team's second goal in what was just their first win of the season.
