Players give kit thumbs-up

Monday, 27 February, 2006

England stars give the new red kit the thumbs-up before looking ahead to Germany.

Five of the England stars involved in the launch of the new kit on Monday morning gave the thumbs-up to the new red strip before looking ahead to the World Cup.

David Beckham, Michael Owen, Frank Lampard, John Terry and Paul Robinson all modelled the new strip, which was inspired by the iconic red kit of 1966.

Captain Beckham, who was substituted during Real Madrid's loss to Real Mallorca on Sunday with a slight niggle, likes the look of the new kit before insisting he 'should be fine' for Wednesday's friendly with Uruguay at Anfield.

Terry also belives England can win the World Cup. "We are very prepared, got a great opportunity and a great chance."

Chelsea team-mate Lampard thinks the new kit is all part of being the complete package as a team. "Going to the World Cup you want to be the best all round and that includes the kit."

England number-one Robinson, who wore the new blue goalkeeper's kit at the launch, added: "Its always nice to feel comfortable in your kit, you go out there and don't worry about anything else."

Owen, who should feature in his third World Cup despite being just 26, is on the road to recovery after breaking a metatersal.

"Hopefully I should be back in the coming weeks. Its all systems go. If I was to play against Chelsea (in The FA Cup) I'm sure John Terry would look after me and not tread on my toes!"
