Wenger backs England duo

Monday, 06 March, 2006

Arsene Wenger insists both Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole will be fully fit before the World Cup.

Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell are being backed to reach full fitness in time for the World Cup Finals.

Both Arsenal players are currently out of action and Cole suffered a setback when he was injured on his return for the reserves last week.

The left-back has started just nine first team games this season and played only an hour of football since October.

But Arsenal say he will be back within three to four weeks and that clubmate Campbelll who has a bruised ankle, should be back in training this week.

"Ashley Cole has a medical problem," said Wenger. "Sol Campbell has a fitness problem. Medically he has no issue any more. He just needs one more week to work on his fitness to be back with the team.

"Sol seems focused at the moment. He has plenty of time to be ready for the World Cup. He has 100 days before the start of the World Cup. That is long enough.

"Ashley Cole is completely out for three to four weeks. He will have maybe 60 days. But I don’t think at the moment that the World Cup is under threat."
