The FA have continued their fantastic support for the Armed Forces by providing the charity, Tickets For Troops, with 500 free tickets for Service Personnel and their families to see England Under-21s in action in February.
Stuart Pearce's side face Belgium on Wednesday 29 February in a vital group game of their qualifying campaign for the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. A win for the young lions at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough will see them progress to the play-offs as group winners, with a place in the Finals in Israel next year the aim.
Tickets For Troops is a cause close to several English players, with John Terry and Steven Gerrard both being Patrons of the charity.
"Young men and women are risking their lives every day and Tickets and Troops is a very simple way of respecting their courage and their sacrifices," said the Liverpool captain.
Under-21s Head Coach Pearce added: “I am a great supporter of our forces. The Under-21s have spent time at Colchester Garrison in their time with me and have had the privilege of meeting and listening to veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. I have personally been to Camp Bastion in Afghanistan and know that anything we can do to support our forces personnel is always gratefully received.”
The partnership between The FA and Tickets For Troops has seen troops regularly attend international friendlies, European Championship and World Cup qualifiers, The FA Cup and The FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.
Tickets For Troops was set up in 2009 to provide members of the Armed Forces with free tickets for major sporting events, theatre performances, music concerts and cultural attractions. Since launching, the charity has been donated over 260,000 tickets and over 110,000 troops have registered on the website www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk.
Tickets For Troops has been supported by a wide range of organisations and has been able to offer free tickets to a huge number of high profile events; recently these have included tickets for Champions League football matches, Billy Elliot The Musical and The Brit Awards 2012.
Troops are encouraged to go online and register at www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk to take advantage of the fantastic tickets available for our Armed Forces.
