Henri Lansbury and Craig Dawson reflect on victory over Azerbaijan.
Henri Lansbury and Craig Dawson were thrilled to score two goals apiece in England’s impressive 6-0 win over Azerbaijan on Thursday as the Under-21s got their new qualifying campaign off to an impressive start.
Lansbury, who was in good form throughout, now hopes the new look Young Lions can get even stronger in the coming months as they look to reach the finals in Israel in 2013.
Head Coach Stuart Pearce could not have asked for a better start as his team produced a superb display at Vicarage Road in their opening European Championship Qualifier.
Lansbury capped an impressive display with a brace and hopes they can make up for the disappointment of failing to make it past the group stages in this year’s Finals in Denmark during the summer.
Lansbury said: “It is a great start. We have had a great few days training with the lads and a fresh bunch. You have seen we can play together now and we showed it tonight.
“There is a lot of talent in both squads but we couldn’t really show it in the qualifiers last time. We have got to do it this time and hopefully go there and do better.
“Every international game is hard but we go into it and give it our all and hopefully we can get the three points."
West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson also marked a superb debut with two goals and feels it will stand him in good stead for the rest of his international career.
Dawson added: “It was a great experience for me and a great start for the lads. If people put great balls into the box you have got to go and attack them.”
