Fraizer Campbell said the win over Spain will send a message out to the rest of the team in Sweden, after his goal helped England to a 2-0 victory and a place in the semi-final.
Campbell came off the bench just before half-time for the injured Gabby Agbonlahor and midway through the second period, he rifled England in front.
James Milner smashed home a second after earlier missing a penalty, and Campbell believes the result has given a massive boost ahead of their final Group game against Germany on Monday night.
“We played with more confidence and I think Spain ran out of ideas, we kept going at them and come away with two goals in the end,” said Campbell, who now has four goals in 12 games for the Under-21s.
“It sends a message to all the countries here that we’ve got a good team and that we can beat sides like Spain.”
Campbell has performed well as a substitute in England’s first two outings here in Sweden, his pace a tireless running causing problems for both Finland and Spain, culminating in his left-foot strike on Monday. But the 21-year-old had praise for the rest of the team who worked hard to create opportunities.
Now he hopes for another chance to impress against the German’s in Halmstad, before thinking about the semi-finals.
“When you play with quality players, they are going to put you in situations like that, and it was then down to me to finish it off.
“The manager said before that every substitute’s got to be ready to be on the pitch at any time. We were all stood there raring to go. When he told me to go on I was more than happy to get on the pitch.”
He added: “We’re really looking forward to the semi-final, we have one more group game obviously and we’re going to be concentrating on that first.
“There’s a massive rivalry between us a Germany and I don’t think the game will lack any of that. It’ll be a good game. If the manager wants me to play I’d love to be involved in the match.”
