England and Liverpool starlet Andre Wisdom signs new long term contract at Anfield

Andre Wisdom has been rewarded for his good form this season by signing a new contract with Liverpool.

The England Under-21 defender has been a regular at Anfield under Brendan Rodgers in recent months and has now put his name to a new long-term deal with the Reds.

And the 19-year-old admits that he didn't take long to make a decision, having come through the Merseyside ranks in recent years after joining from Bradford City as a youngster.

He said: "It was an easy decision to make - as soon as they offered it to me, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands because it's a great club and I just want to continue to play for Liverpool.

"I am happy with the progress I've made so far and hopefully I can progress more in the second half of the season and continue to keep playing."

Wisdom has been used in a full-back role for Liverpool this season, but has been best known as a central defender in his performances with the England development teams over the years.

He scored a goal in the Euro Championship Final for England U17s as they beat Spain to clinch the title in 2010 and has also been capped at U16 and U19 level.

This season has seen him establish a spot in Stuart Pearce's Under-21 squad alongside Anfield team-mates such as Jordan Henderson, Jonjo Shelvey, Martin Kelly and Raheem Sterling.

And with his long term future at Liverpool now secured, he's focusing on continuing his improvement in what has been a breakthrough season for him.

"There's still so much hard work ahead," he added. "There is big competition within the team and everyone wants to play football.

"I just hope I can keep progressing and continue in the way I have been."
