Steven Gerrard praises Liverpool team mates Jordan Henderson and Martin Kelly
England captain Steven Gerrard has praised Jordan Henderson and Martin Kelly, but can't choose between them for the Under-21s Player of 2012.
Gerrard has seen both Henderson and Kelly flourish at Anfield and with Stuart Pearce's Young Lions and say they both have bright futures in an England shirt.
The Liverpool duo, who figured in Roy Hodgson's squad at Euro 2012, are both in the running for the first-ever England Under-21s Player of the Year award.
Henderson, skipper of Pearce's side, played in all six matches in 2012 as they maintained a 100% record to qualify for the European Championship in June.
Kelly is also an important member of the squad, scoring three times in eight games so far, but injury earlier this campaign saw his 2012 cut short.
"They are two very top lads," Gerrard told TheFA.com. "They are always trying to learn and develop day in, day out.
"I think they both have big international futures at senior team level."
Gerrard has been impressed with how the pair have performed for the Under-21s, as well as stepping up to the senior team.
He also sees a likeness between himself and former Sunderland midfielder Henderson,
"I think Jordan has a lot of similarities to me as a player. He’s got a lot of energy and likes to get about the pitch and get his passing game going."
"But it’s difficult to pick one out, though, as they have both had great years and have been very solid as far as international football is concerned."
You can vote for either Henderson or Kelly for your Under-21s Player of the Year, as well as have a say on the Senior Men's and Women's Awards in the polls below.
