Wycombe Wanderers will welcome England’s Under-21s to Adams Park in March for the next step on their path to Euro 2013
’s young stars face two games on home soil before they head to Israel for June’s Finals.
Having already confirmed a friendly at Brighton on 25 March
, four days earlier, on Thursday 21 March, England will also play at Wycombe against Romania.
It will be the first time in 16 years that the Three Lions Under-21s side have played at Adams Park.
Peter Taylor was in charge of a team that beat Moldova 1-0 in a UEFA Qualifier in September 1997.
“I’ve visited Wycombe many times and it is a great venue for football, the size of the stadium is perfect for us,” said England coach Pearce.
“I’ve never taken a team there before, so I’m really looking forward to it. With the senior team having two away matches it’s great for the Under 21s side to have two home matches at two different stadiums, such as Wycombe and Brighton.”
“It’s also a chance for the people of Buckinghamshire to come out and see some real top quality young players on show.”
Pearce’s young charges are currently on a record-breaking run of seven straight victories without conceding a goal.
During that time, they have qualified for the UEFA European Under-21s Championship for the fourth time in succession – the only nation to do so – and Pearce says he will be taking a strong team with Israel fast approaching.
Romania are also familiar opponents for the Under-21s under Pearce. A 2007 friendly in Bristol ended 1-1, and England triumphed 2-1 on aggregate
in a two-legged Euro 2011 play-off three years later to reach the Finals in Denmark.
“It’s an important month for us as it’s my last opportunity ahead of this summer’s tournament to look at any players,” added Pearce.
“I will be putting out a strong side for both games and having a look at all my squad before we fly to Israel.”
This match will be screened live on ESPN with the programme starting at 6.30pm.
