Harry Maguire and Martyn Waghorn join Young Lions for meeting with Northern Ireland

Stuart Pearce has called up Sheffield United defender Harry Maguire to his Under-21s squad for the first time ahead of Tuesday’s game in Blackpool.

The Three Lions face Northern Ireland at Bloomfield Road and, after seeing three players withdraw from his original squad, Pearce has added the 19-year-old to his ranks.

Maguire has made over 80 appearances for the Bramall Lane outfit since earning his debut in April 2011.

As well as the Blades youngster, Pearce has also brought in Leicester City striker Martyn Waghorn, who last featured against Norway in September for what was his fourth cap.

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, who was one of Pearce’s original 22, has been added to Roy Hodgson’s senior squad after five players pulled out.

Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers midfielder Jason Lowe and Newcastle United forward Sammy Ameobi have both been forced out through injury.

Tuesday’s encounter will be England’s first against Northern Ireland at Under-21s level and will begin their preparation for next summer’s European Championship in Israel.

The Young Lions reached the Finals after winning their qualifying group before beating Serbia over the two-legged play-off last month.
