Nathan Delfouneso is looking forward to England Under-21s' visit to Blackpool

Nathan Delfouneso is excited by the prospect of pulling on the Three Lions at his Bloomfield Road home next month.

The England Under-21s forward says he’s enjoying life at Blackpool this season after signing on loan from Aston Villa.

But on 13 November, the club will be hosting Stuart Pearce’s Young Lions as they take on Northern Ireland in a friendly.

And after helping them reach the 2013 European Championship Finals with a two-legged play-off win over Serbia a fortnight ago, Delfouneso is looking forward to the chance of representing his country in front of the Seasiders faithful.

“It’s exciting to have an England game at Blackpool,” Delfouneso told TheFA.com. “They have a great support and will really get behind us.

“It will be great for me and Incey [Tom Ince] if we get the chance to play. He’s had a great start to the season and it will be good if he can continue that form.

"Hopefully I can get the opportunity to go and put in performance and maybe get a goal as well.”

Having scored twice in his ten appearances so far, the 21-year-old is relishing playing regularly for Ian Holloway’s Championship side.

Delfouneso believes this season is an important one for him as he looks to earn a place in Pearce’s plans for the Euro 2013 in Israel. 

He was part of the Under-21s squad at last year’s Finals in Denmark, and now the Birmingham-born youngster wants another taste of an international tournament next summer.

“My mindset is really good since I’ve been at Blackpool and I’m very grateful for the opportunity,” he said.

“It’s given me the chance to play football regularly. I feel good for it too. I feel fitter, more confident and I think I’m ready for anything at the minute.

“Hopefully I can get the chance to play for England and show I’m reaping the benefits of playing week in, week out.

“Playing at club level is very important for me. I’ve enjoyed the start I’ve had at Blackpool and I want to do well for them and get the chance to be involved with England at the European Championship.

“I know I’ve got to be on top form just to go, so I need to be at my best to play as well.

“I know how tough it is to get in the team, I’ve had experience of it before, so I see this as an important season for me, both at club and country.”
