England Under-21s will take on Azerbaijan at the stadiummk in Milton Keynes next month in their final warm up game ahead of the summer's UEFA European Under-21s Championship in Sweden.

The young lions suffered their first home defeat in over two years against France at Nottingham Forest in March and will be looking to get back to winning ways on their return to Milton Keynes.

The fixture, which will be the U21-s first return to Milton Keynes since a 2-0 win over Bulgaria in November 2007, will follow the squad’s training camp in Spain and will be the ideal opportunity for last-minute preparations ahead of the Finals.

Coach Stuart Pearce said: “This is a vital game for the squad and our last preparation game before Sweden. Hopefully, we will be coming into the game on the back of a good week of working with the squad at our training camp in Spain.

"Azerbaijan were very keen to play us at a time where international friendlies are tough to organise with club seasons coming to an end. I will be taking the final squad of 23 to Milton Keynes and this will be a good chance for many of them to impress and play their way into my starting eleven against Finland on 15 June.

"We are looking forward to the game and we are hoping for a great crowd in Milton Keynes to send us off to Sweden."

MK Dons Chairman Pete Winkelman said: “We are once again delighted and honoured to welcome Stuart Pearce and the England Under-21 squad to stadiummk for what will be another opportunity for the people of Milton Keynes to see some of this country's brightest young talent in action.

"The Under-21's last visit to the city in 2007 saw a sell-out Milton Keynes crowd generate a wonderful atmosphere on a freezing cold night. I have every confidence that the fans will once again be out in force on 8 June to give the team the best possible send off for this summer’s Championship."

The Under-21s secured their qualification for the Finals following a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Wales, seeing them through 5-4 on aggregate in October last year.

England are in Group B alongside Spain, Germany and Finland for the Finals and will kick-off their bid to win the tournament when they face the Finns on 15 June in Halmstad.

Tickets are on sale now from the MK Dons Ticket Office. Supporters can purchase tickets either over the counter or by calling 01908 622900.
