The FA can today announce that Villa Park will host the home leg of England's UEFA European Under-21 Championship play-off against Wales on Tuesday 14 October. Kick-off is at 7.45pm, with tickets priced at £10 for adults and £5 for under-16s.

The away leg will be played at Ninian Park on Friday 10 October, with the victors progressing to the eight-team finals tournament to be held in Sweden next June.

England secured qualification for the play-offs courtesy of a 2-0 win over Portugal at Wembley earlier this month, winning their group and dropping just two points in eight games. Meanwhile Brian Flynn's Wales topped a group that also included France and Romania, winning six matches and losing just two along the way.

England coach Stuart Pearce is expecting a stern test: "Wales are probably as strong as they have ever been at this level, with several players with experience at senior international level.

"Whenever the British teams meet there is always that special edge to the game, especially with the stakes being so high. It will be an exciting night at Villa Park and it's that sort of atmosphere that we want to create for the Under-21s. The team showed at Wembley that they relish playing in front of a big support and I can only see it helping them as a group."

Aston Villa will be well-represented with James Milner, Gabby Agbonlahor and Craig Gardner all in the squad, with Milner and Agbonlahor full of confidence after notching the goals that saw off Portugal.

The other play-off ties are Germany v France, Denmark v Serbia, Turkey v Belarus, Austria v Finland, Italy v Israel and Switzerland v Spain.
