Tom Huddlestone admits he is fully back into the swing of things following the start of the new season and just can't wait to get out on the pitch, for both club and country.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is hoping to get his first international game of the new campaign under his belt on Tuesday evening, when England Under-21s take on Slovenia in Hull and after the hard work of pre-season, the 21-year-old is itching to get involved again.

"Now the season has started I think everyone is raring to go," he told TheFA.com

"It’s nice. In pre-season you’re stuck with the same 20 players for six weeks, so to come away with a new group of lads, especially the ones you get on with, it’s always nice."

Huddlestone enjoyed a strong finish to last season, when he was heavily involved in the first team at White Hart Lane before receiving a call-up to the senior England squad for the first time for the games against USA and Trinidad & Tobago.

Having sampled what life is like amongst Fabio Capello's squad, the former Derby County player is now determined to get back in by continuing his development with Spurs and in Stuart Pearce's Under-21 side, with whom he scored in a friendly against Wales in May.

"It was a great experience and those sorts of experiences make you hungry to try to get back into the squad," he explained.

"It gives you a taste, you’re playing with great names

"Towards the end of the last season, I felt fairly confident, but it was a tough game (against Wales) and to get the goal, even though it was a penalty, was good."
