Young Lions will play Africans in World Cup round of 16.

England will face Nigeria in the FIFA U20 World Cup round of 16 on Wednesday, as the first set of fixtures in the knock-out stages were finalised on Saturday evening.

Brian Eastick's side had their already confirmed their place in the last 16 of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Colombia on Friday evening, after results in Group B ensured that the Young Lions finished the Group Stage as one of the four best third placed teams and after waiting for another 24 hours, they now know their opponents will be the free-scoring Nigerians after their 2-0 victory against Saudi Arabia in Pereira ensured that they finished top of Group D.

The England squad learned of their own second round confirmation just as they were about to depart the team hotel for a meal out in Cartagena's 'old town' on Friday.

Speaking about the news, Eastick said: "We're obviously pleased to get through, in particular I'm delighted for the players though because they've worked so hard in what was a difficult group stage.

"And I think we deserve to go through. Not many people gave us a chance against the likes of Argentina and Mexico but we've matched them and could even have beaten them.

"We've had a rest after the Mexico game, but we'll be back in training on Saturday before we travel again on Sunday and then we can really start preparing.

"All of the games have got tougher as we have gone along, and this will be the same again."

The squad will now depart from Cartagena for Armenia, their third different World Cup base in Colombia so far, on Sunday morning.

The game will kick-off at 5pm local time, or 11pm BST.
