Noel Blake's U19s make it two wins from two with victory over Faroe Islands

England U19s made it two wins out of two against Faroe Islands in Tallinn to secure their passage to next spring’s Elite Qualifying Round for the 2013 European Championship.

Noel Blake’s side were convincing winners in the end and with just one game remaining in the group against Ukraine on Monday, the Young Lions know that they have already done enough to secure at least second place following on from Wednesday's 3-0 win against hosts Estonia.

Two goals apiece for West Ham’s Blair Turgott and Arsenal’s Chuba Akpom and further strikes from substitutes Hallam Hope of Everton and Southampton’s Calum Chambers proved too much for the Faroese and it could have been an even higher scoreline, with both Akpom and Jack Barmby seeing second-half efforts his the woodwork.

To start with, it was almost a personal battle between Eli Leifsson and Turgott, with the Faroese ‘keeper thwarting the young Hammer on a couple of occasions in the first ten minutes before Turgott got the better of him with a 20-yard howitzer into the top left-hand corner after 11 minutes.

That strike threatened to open the floodgates early, as John Swift and Akpom both had attempts saved by Leifsson in the following minutes before Akpom got his first of the afternoon in the 23rd minute when he cut inside before firing home from 15 yards.

England continued to press in the first half and Akpom gave his side a three goal lead in added time, as he collected the ball from Adebayo Azeez before advancing past two players in the area and then smashing home past Leifsson and into the bottom corner.

Akpom came within inches of completing his hat-trick after the restart following Lundstram’s corner, seeing his shot clip the post, but it was Hope who made it four when he struck a low drive past Leifsson just five minutes after his introduction.

As the rain came down in Tallinn, England’s goals continued flowing in the last ten minutes with Turgott collecting a through-ball from Akpom before dinking a neat shot over Leifsson in the 82nd minute before Chambers made it 6-0 two minutes later with a shot through a crowded area after receiving a pass from Swift.

Blake’s side will now face Ukraine in their final match of the trip on Monday afternoon.
