Danny Rose knows exactly what it feels like to represent his country at the Keepmoat Stadium and is sure the current crop of U19s will enjoy their outing next week.
Noel Blake’s squad face Denmark at the Doncaster venue next Tuesday, with nearly 7000 tickets already sold for the game.
And Doncaster-born Rose reckons it’s a stadium which is ideally suited for a match like this, as England put in their preparations for
May’s Elite Qualifying Round.
The England Under-21 defender said: “It will be a great place for the U19s to go and play at.
“It’s a shame it’s not the Under-21s playing there again, so I could be involved, but it’s definitely something the players should be looking forward to.
“It’s a really nice stadium with a good pitch and is a good size for the U19s and I’m sure there will be a few fans there supporting them as well.
“Being a Doncaster lad, I would say that, but I have nothing but good memories of playing there with England.”
Rose still recalls the day when
he played for England U19s in his hometown back in 2009.
The Spurs ace, currently impressing on loan with Sunderland, was part of Brian Eastick’s squad taking on Bosnia-Herzegovina in the first game of their Elite Round that year.
And
Rose brought the house down when he headed his side ahead in front of a hometown crowd.
“I was fortunate enough to play there when I was with the U19s and was even lucky enough to score, which was great for me with a lot of family and friends at the game,” he added.
“I remember
Nathan Delfouneso crossed it for me and I managed to get above the centre-half and head it in.
“I think that might be the only headed goal that I’ve ever scored in my career!
“So it’s one that I still remember now for obvious reasons.”
