England U19s will face a stern test ahead of the European Championship Elite Rounds next month, when they take on Germany in a game at Chesterfield’s new B2net Stadium.
Noel Blake’s team secured their passage to the next round of the UEFA Championships when they came through the First Round Qualifying tournament in Belgium last October, after games with the host nation, Albania and Cyprus.
Their focus has now shifted towards the Elite Round tournament in May when the Young Lions will have to overcome opposition from host nation Switzerland, Spain and Montenegro and finish on top of the four-team table if they are to progress to the European U19 Championship Finals in Romania in the summer.
Germany, who were European U19 champions themselves in 2008, are also in preparation for the Elite Round where they will face Turkey, Hungary and FYR Macedonia so it will be seen as a good warm-up for them too.
“It’s a game we’re very much looking forward to,” explained Head Coach Blake, ahead of the match.
“England versus Germany is always a heavily weighted fixture at any level in football and this is the sort of opposition we want to face.
“This German year group were European Champions at U17 level, so it’s a challenge for us and one that I know the lads are very much looking forward to.”
The game also sees an England team in action at the B2net Stadium for the first time, following the Spireites move there this season and it is a venue which Blake is looking forward to using.
“Chesterfield have an excellent facility for us to use, since their move from the old Saltergate ground,” he added.
“I’ve been down there a couple of times this season to watch them and their manager John Sheridan is a good friend of mine.
“It’s a nice, new venue and we’re looking forward to taking an England team there.”
Chesterfield Chairman Barrie Hubbard added: "We are absolutely delighted that in our first season at the B2net Stadium we are actually hosting an England International and appreciate being chosen to do so by The FA."
Tickets go on sale at the B2net Stadium ticket office from 9am Monday 17 January 2011, priced Adults £3, Concessions/Juveniles £1, either in person or via the Spireites dedicated ticket line on 01246 488232.
Details for corporate hospitality will be announced later this month, although any expressions of interest can be made in advance to Janice Kew, 01246 209765, ext 4153.
