UEFA European U19 Championship
Elite Qualifying Round Group 2
In Switzerland, from 31 May-5 June 2011
ENGLAND, Switzerland, Montenegro, Spain

Seven Liverpool players have been called up by Noel Blake for England’s final round of qualifiers for the UEFA European U19 Championship.

The Young Lions will fly to Switzerland at the end of the month where they will face Montenegro, Spain and the host nation in Qualifying Group 2, with the top-placed nation qualifying for the European Finals in the summer.

A large contingent of Liverpool youngsters have caught the England Head Coach’s eye in recent weeks, among them full-back John Flanagan who has enjoyed a number of outings in the Reds’ first-team and can now enjoy his first-ever international call-up. Another England player who has been on the cusp of the Anfield first-team is midfielder Jonjo Shelvey and he will bring some experience to Blake’s squad. Conor Coady, Andre Wisdom, Jack Robinson, Michael Ngoo and Tom Ince complete the Liverpool connection.

Coady and Wisdom helped the U17s to European glory last season and five more of that squad have been charged with the task of helping the U19s qualify for Romania 2011 – Jack Butland, Sam Johnstone, Josh McEachran, Tom Thorpe and Connor Wickham.

England get their Elite Qualifying Round campaign underway against Montenegro on Tuesday 31 May.

Two years ago, the U19s finished runners-up to Ukraine, while last season they reached the last four, where they lost to Spain. Their last game saw them slip to a 3-0 friendly defeat in Holland.
