Daniel Welbeck is hoping that his previous international experience can prove useful in the Czech Republic next week, when he joins the England U19 squad for the European Championships.

The Manchester United striker was part of the U17 team which travelled to the World Cup in South Korea last year and has also played in the U17 European Championships with the younger age group.

Now he is looking to fire the Young Lions to success, as they prepare for their opening game with the Czech Republic on Monday 14 July.

“Everybody is looking forward to this, it’s a big tournament,” he told TheFA.com.

“I went there last season with the younger group and then got to the finals and then went to the World Cup after that. It was a really great experience, nothing better.

“I think everyone in the squad has got a bit of experience and everything is going well at the moment, the training camp was good and the sessions have been good and everyone is just focused and looking forward to the trip.”

The 17-year-old is also going into the tournament on the back of a successful end to the season at Old Trafford.

He was named as a substitute for the Champions League semi-final with Barcelona and was amongst the travelling squad for the Champions League final in Moscow and the Manchester-born ace admits that he has learnt a lot over the last few months.

“It was just a great experience for me,” he revealed.

“There’s nothing better than travelling with the squad and watching things like how they prepare for games, how they eat, rest and relax and hopefully I can take that into my own game.”
