Brian Eastick takes his U19s team into action on Wednesday night, when they face Czech Republic in Walsall and look to get back to winning ways following their reverse against Spain last month.

The Young Lions were overturned by 3-0 at AFC Bournemouth in that outing and with May’s European U19 Championship Elite Round qualifiers now on the horizon, Eastick is looking to make his final preparations.

“Czech Republic will offer different problems to Spain, but will be equally as difficult to play against,” he told TheFA.com.

“We played them last year in the European U19 Championship in Czech Republic and whilst that was a different team to who we face on Wednesday, I do think that the principles will be very similar and they will be physically strong and powerful and a test for us.

“That’s why we have arranged difficult friendlies with the likes of Spain, Germany and Netherlands this season, because it’s a good challenge for the players.

“We will have learnt a lot more from the Spain game than if we had played a lesser opposition and I’m sure that Czech Republic will be very similar.”

With this being the last match for the U19s before they face Scotland, Slovakia and Bosnia in the Elite Round, Eastick is taking the opportunity to look at his wider options and there are a couple of new faces in the squad for this game who will no doubt be desperate to impress.

The likes of Martin Kelly, Kyle Walker and Andrew Tutte were in the squad for the first time to face Spain and now have another chance to stake their claims whilst Spurs striker Jon Obika, Leeds defender Aidan White and Coventry City’s on-loan Sunderland winger Jordan Henderson are involved for the first time and will no doubt be looking to make an impression and push for a place in the 18-man squad for May.

“I will continue the policy of looking at one or two new players, as we need to find out about them and give them the opportunity to show what they can do ahead of the Elite Round,” explained Eastick.

“The likes of Martin Kelly and Kyle Walker are in the squad again as is Andrew Tutte and the new faces in the squad are Jordan Henderson, Aidan White and Jonathan Obika, so I will want to have a look at them.

“After the game, I hope to be able to sit down with the staff and we should have a pretty good idea of who we feel will be the best squad of 18 players for the Elite Round games when we can hopefully get through to the Finals.”
