Kenny Swain takes charge of Nordic Tournament opener against Faroe Islands.

England U17s got the Nordic Tournament off to a winning start on Monday afternoon, as second-half goals from Bradley Fewster and debutant Danny O'Brien sealed a victory over this year's host nation.

The Young Lions, managed by Kenny Swain during this annual competition, had to work hard for their win too with Faroe Islands putting in a dogged and detemined display which saw them forming what seemed a ten-man defence at times in the second half.

England dominated the possession and opportunities from start to finish and, aside from a brief flurry from the Islanders at the start of the second half, were throroughly deserved winners.

They had to wait until late on in the game to take the lead though, as the lively Middlesbrough starlet Fewster put them ahead from the penalty spot with just over ten minutes remaining.

That goal broke the deadlock and substitite O'Brien of Aston Villa, who only joined the squad as a late replacement, duly added a second goal to seal the win with just two minutes remaining on the clock.

England will play their second match of the Tournament on Tuesday when they play Finland in Gundadalur at 3pm.
