England U17s captain Leo Chambers helped his side to a well earned victory over Italy on Wednesday night and told FATV he thought it was thoroughly deserved.

The West Ham United defender, who was a regular for the U16s team which won the Victory Shield last season, even came close to scoring himself following a marauding run from the back but was just pleased to have helped the team to a win.

"It was a very good victory," he said.

"We had to really dig in and we did score late, but it was a good team effort."

It was the first match of the season for John Peacock's side as they prepare for what will be the first competitive European Championship campaign of their fledgling careers, but after a slow start to the game, Chambers felt the Young Lions grew into the match.

"We did start slow," he added. "But we gradually got into it and as a team, we bonded and then scored late on."
