John Peacock is preparing his England squad for The FA International U17 Tournament which will take place at the end of this month.

Every player enjoyed their first taste of international football as U16s last season, but this will be the first opportunity for Peacock to assess his new crop of talented youngsters. As U16s, this group of players helped England win both the Victory Shield and the Montaigu Tournament.

England welcome Italy, Czech Republic and Portugal to Cambridge United FC, Bishop’s Stortford FC and Northampton Town FC respectively, and the Young Lions will be hoping to retain a title their predecessors lifted last season. They drew 2-2 with Turkey and defeated Australia 4-0 and Portugal 3-1.

This year’s squad contains a couple of familiar names as Devante Cole and Diego Poyet both have famous footballing fathers in the shape of former Manchester United and Manchester City striker Andy Cole and the current Brighton & Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet.

Shay Facey and Chuba Akpom have already received their maiden U17 caps as the duo are currently in Iceland helping England compete in the Nordic Tournament. Facey captained England in their opening two games of the tournament, against Faroe Islands and Norway, while Akpom scored in the 4-0 defeat of the Faroes.

As always, Peacock will be using this tournament as preparation for the First Qualifying Round for next summer’s U17 Euro Finals. He will take a squad to Bosnia-Herzegovina in October where his side will take on the host nation, Netherlands and Latvia, with the top two teams in the group making it through to the Elite Qualifying Round early next year.
