The England U17 team have won the Algarve Tournament for the second time in three years following a 0-0 draw with Portugal in their final group match, ensuring they top the group on goal difference.

John Peacock’s side came into this match off the back of a 1-1 draw with France and a 3-0 victory over Ukraine. The goalless draw with Portugal means they have won the tournament without losing a game and it has extended their unbeaten run to seven matches in total, dating back to last August.

This success sets England up nicely for their ensuing European Championship Elite Round qualifying campaign which gets underway on 27 March. Burton Albion FC and Northampton Town FC will host England’s matches against Sweden, Malta and Slovakia. The nation finishing top of this group will qualify for the Euro Finals which are to be staged in Liechtenstein in May.
